Lightning Lands on BitBox — And It Doesn’t Ask for a New Seed Phrase

According to Bitcoin Magazine, hardware wallet manufacturer BitBox announced on Tuesday that users can now create a Lightning hot wallet inside the mobile BitBoxApp. Bitcoin Magazine reports that the integration allows owners of any BitBox hardware wallet to fund the hot wallet directly from their on-chain balance and pay invoices without switching apps or using third-party services. Users do not need a new recovery phrase because the Lightning wallet derives from their existing BitBox backup. The feature is designed for everyday spending while long-term savings remain secured by the hardware device. Within the BitBoxApp, users can scan and pay invoices, send and receive bitcoin, claim a Lightning address, top up from the on-chain wallet, and sweep funds back. Bitcoin Magazine notes that the feature runs on the Breez SDK, utilizing Spark to manage channels, nodes, and liquidity so users maintain custody throughout. Breez recently debuted Glow in August to assist developers with Lightning wallet products. The report was published by Bitcoin Magazine on September 15, 2026.
