According to Bitcoin Magazine, Bitcoin Core contributor Peter Todd has joined the MARA Foundation as the lead maintainer of Slipstream, the company's private Bitcoin mempool service. Announced on Thursday, Todd will develop and run the service, which enables users to send bitcoin transactions directly to MARA Pool without utilizing Bitcoin's public peer-to-peer network.

Slipstream previously drew attention in 2024 for publishing large Ordinals inscriptions and was utilized following a July hack involving Coldcard hardware wallets that resulted in over $115 million in stolen funds. The private routing keeps transactions hidden prior to block confirmation, protecting public key exposure. Todd stated that Slipstream will serve as a proving ground for experimental development and protocol innovation, complementing his work on Libre Relay and broader mempool policy.

Todd is a longtime Bitcoin Core contributor, co-author of BIP 125, creator of OpenTimestamps, and launcher of Libre Relay. MARA's Slipstream has also recently supported research initiatives such as Quantum Safe Bitcoin and Binohash.
