Lummis Credits Trump for Ethics Deal as Clarity Act Faces Tuesday Vote

According to Bitcoin Magazine, Senator Cynthia Lummis has credited U.S. President Donald Trump for agreeing to strict ethics restrictions in order to advance the Clarity Act. Lawmakers are scheduled to vote on the bill on Tuesday. Lummis stated that Trump agreed to tough ethics rules that provide state attorneys general standing to sue to enforce conflict-of-interest rules on federal officials.

The Clarity Act seeks to formally divide oversight between regulators by distinguishing whether digital assets are securities, commodities, or stablecoins. Lummis, along with senators John Boozman and Tim Scott, released a new draft of the legislation that grants enforcement powers to attorneys general. Lummis urged Democrats to support the vote, warning that a rejection would kill both the ethics reform and consumer protections for Americans holding digital assets.

While the House of Representatives passed the bill last year, it has stalled in 2026 amidst clashes between the banking lobby and crypto companies over stablecoin yield. Some Washington lawmakers have previously criticized profits made by the Trump family from digital asset ventures, though Trump and the White House have denied any conflicts of interest.
